From Astrology To Romance, Latin Authors Will Share Their Experiences
The Las Vegas Book Festival Saturday returns Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with three panel discussions and one workshop highlighting Spanish literature. The free annual event is held downtown at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St., and is open to all ages.
Latina romance authors and friends Alexis Daria, Annette Chavez Macias, Priscilla Oliveras and Mia Sosa will discuss their books and inspiration with moderator Jacqueline Killian.
Another discussion will examine how literary partnerships can enhance writers’ careers by providing platforms for international visibility, co-authorship opportunities and the exchange of innovative ideas; moderated by Juanny Vega, this panel includes Patricia Marulanda, Dr. Marcela Bernal Pardo, Guanina Alexandras Robles and Niza Todaro.
Latinx educators in Southern Nevada, Marbella Alfonso, Laurents E. Bañuelos-Benitez and Norma A. Marrun will join a conversation about their experiences and histories.
Lastly, attendees are invited to a workshop on the indigenous calendar and astrology system. This tri-lingual workshop offers an introduction to the Tonalli, a key element in indigenous timekeeping and astrology systems, which is deeply connected to the traditions of indigenous peoples across the modern-day United States, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and Nicaragua
A full schedule of activities that includes panel discussions, book signings, workshops and children’s events will be shared closer to the event.
